Maria Joana Garcia, 61, of Brockton, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on February 19, 2026, in Brockton, MA, surrounded by the love and prayers of her family.
Born on December 18, 1964, in Boston, MA, she was the cherished daughter of Jose Garcia and the late Cora Pina.
Maria was a woman of strength, compassion, and quiet resilience. Raised in Boston, she carried her love for family and community with her throughout her life. She dedicated her professional career to Manufacturing Engineering at Smith & Nephew, where her diligence, intelligence, and commitment to excellence earned her the respect of colleagues and friends alike. Maria took pride in her work and approached every task with determination and integrity.
Above all else, Maria’s greatest joy was her family. She was a devoted and loving mother to her beloved son, Julio Monterio, who was the light of her life and her proudest accomplishment. Her unwavering support, guidance, and unconditional love shaped Julio’s life in countless ways.
Maria is survived by her loving son, Julio Monterio; her devoted father, Jose Garcia; her dear siblings, Yvette Garcia, Renee Garcia, Jose Garcia Jr., and Eva Garcia; along with her cherished 16 nieces and nephews, and a host of extended family members and friends who will deeply miss her warmth, kindness, laughter, and steadfast presence. She is predeceased by her beloved mother, Cora Pina.
Those who knew Maria will remember her gentle spirit, her generous heart, and the strength she showed through life’s challenges. She found joy in the simple moments, family gatherings, shared meals, and meaningful conversations. Her love was constant and enduring, and her legacy will live on in the lives of those she touched.
Viewing hours will be held on Thursday, March 5, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by her funeral service at 11:00 a.m. at George Lopes Funeral Home, 647 Main Street, Brockton, MA.
Though our hearts are heavy with sorrow, we take comfort in the love Maria gave so freely and the memories we will cherish forever. She will remain in our hearts always.
