June Elam-Mooers Obituary

“Mama” June was born the youngest girl of 8 children, to the late Rev. Cornelius Range and Mrs. Lovie Range.  She was the last surviving offspring.  Sadly, she was predeceased by her eldest daughter Lovie R. Elam and son C. Richard Elam, Esq.

The family moved from Philadelphia, PA to Boston, MA.  She studied hard and graduated in 1950 from Roxbury Memorial HS.  In 1952, she received a Diploma for Dental Hygiene from the Forsyth School for Dental Hygienists, a Tufts University Affiliate.

In Boston she met Clarence Elam and they married in 1956.  From that union her three lovely children were born, Lovie, Brenda and Richard.

She received her Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 1988, after which she entered a lifetime of work and study.

She held several interesting jobs during her lifetime.  She worked as a Dental Hygienist.  She held the hands of scared children during their X-rays.  It was later discovered that the excessive X-ray radiation caused her to develop vitiligo.  She worked for General Motors for many years, until her retirement.  Later, she worked as a Companion caregiver for the elderly and also served as an advisor and life-coach for many years.  She studied homeopathy and learned how to help herself and others improve their health with prayer and better nutrition.  She also became a licensed real estate broker and served on the Milton Housing Authority Board for several years, even serving as Assistant Treasurer.  She was active with various groups that helped to improve the community.  She supported many political candidates. She even volunteered                part-time at Town Hall, until age 93.   Yet she most enjoyed counselling and supporting people through their life and relationship challenges.

She thoroughly enjoyed music of all genres, sharing good meals with loved ones, experiencing various cultures and meeting people from all over the world.   She made everyone feel at ease and was comfortable with people of all walks of life.

She had a deep and abiding interest in learning about the Lord and spiritual matters.  Now, she is free of all of life’s troubles and has answers to all her questions.

June believed that Loving the Lord first and loving your neighbor as yourself are the most important guiding principles in life (Matthew 22:37-39.) She prayed and tried to show love in countless ways. She has said that love is the most important and powerful thing of all; that it is in sharing it with others - family, friends, and those in need of help - that makes life truly meaningful.  So let us pick up the mantle of love and help each other when needed, as she taught us.

She will be sorely missed by her attentive caregiving daughter Brenda, beloved granddaughter Kaleeya, stepchildren Robert and Kim; sisters-in-law Harriet (Wilfred), Sandra, and Gayle, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family, neighbors and community-at-large.
